College Already?

Standard

…But you were just in kindergarten now you’re off to college! Time flies. While we are changing diapers and wiping runny noses, rushing to get everyone to practice on time, packing those healthy lunches and everything in between your babies are growing up and then one day they are packing up to head out on their own and there is not a damn thing you can do about it.

The many phases our lives go through is tough enough with out adding the heartbreak of our babies leaving the nest. We want the best for them and we want them on their own. Their entire lives have been centered around us preparing them to flap their wings and fly but when they finally do it’s painful. The storm of emotions that come along with this day is daunting. We are so happy for them, excited for he future we see ahead of them, fearful of the dangers that we know lie ahead but they don’t, uncertain if we have done everything possible to prepare them for the big world. We fear that there is one thing that we forgot to teach them that will be the one lesson they need the most. We see the outside influences that they don’t and we hope they never have to overcome those forces. We hope that they never find monsters in their closets, because we know they are there in the form of bad experiences and negative influences. We understand that they will be tested at every turn…did I teach him how to handle that situation?

We also know that the world is full of amazing experiences and challenges. We hope for them to have it all…but what is IT? We want them to be successful in their own rite. We wish all the happiness in the world for them. We trust that each and every experience is a lesson learned and a memory created. We want them to experience to true happiness that many never have. We also want them to have those life changing moments where they learn lessons that only a higher power can teach. We want them to have IT all.

This post was inspired by a dear friends Facebook post it simply said “Just left a piece of my heart in Daytona” I knew immediately what she meant and my throat instantly developed a lump because I knew I’d be leaving a piece of my heart next week. It is dedicated to all my dear friends who also have children heading off to college this summer/fall, you know who you are.
